As the light slowly fades

The cold tightens it's grip

Deafening silence sets in

The blue colors my lips

Falling like a feather

Weightless and still

An endless decent

Resigned is the will

From the darkness above

I could see her gentle wings

Felt the warmth of her voice

Heard the song as she sings

With one deep breath

My lungs filled with her love

I knew who she was

I saw a news story today

The opulent  is in a bad way

The country is is disarray

Thought I might have a word to say

Every morning she starts her day 

Don't forget your lunch she'd say

Mommy I like my hair this way

Let's hurry before we miss the bus today

I love you my child, she would say

As she left to go to work for pay

Another day to work away

The hours as they fade into the gray

I asked her how she was today

Just another day she would say

In her bed in pain, she laid

With her arm around child

She fades

The bill is too high for her to pay

As they watch the opulent in disarray

On the news story today

Is there more for me to say

If only a penny 

You should spend

If only a cent you should lend

If only a smile you could show

If only we helped just for a while

If only we cared for each other

If only you took a chance and dared

For another than yourself

As my eyes slowly open

Much to my dismay

Was this just a dream

Why did I not stay

In anticipation each day

I await for the night

Should that dream return

I will never lose sight

An angel she is

As she pulls me in close

In a warm embrace

Did this feeling arose

True love this is

As I woke to her smile

A dream that came true

Yes I knew all the while

A man’s heart long since cold

On this day came to be

This place just an image

In the recess of my mind

A cold dark cavern

Or a memory to find

I let go of the tether

From the abyss did I emerge

Into a light dimly kept

Aglow, now it shines

A pot stews on the stove

Mother prepares for the day

Peanut butter on bread

An apple tucked away

They walk to school

Daughter’s excited today

To see all her friends

To get thru the day

From school then to a train

Her job miles away

Seems there's not enough work

Nor time in the day

A lump she has found

As large as her fears

She won't see the doctor

No money, then tears

Mother’s child’s needs are first

Every coin is so bound

In need of Family and friends….

No one to be found

Simple dignity a right

For every person you see 

Care for what we can't control

To fight disease without fee

To see the truth just look inside

The image that you see

A mirror is the only truth

A window to what you can be

These purveyors of war

Pretend their devotion

To covet, their only goal

As they plot and they scheme

While dying children scream

Under flags of many

Not leaders at all

Afraid to answer

The pleas to the call

To struggle with love

A burden always for me

To be able to trust
